Logline

When hunger spills blood. To survive, one line is crossed. To win, all of them are erased.

Synopsis

Montevideo, 1971. As the government enforces a beef ban in a country built on cattle, the black market erupts. To survive the crisis, José, a Galician immigrant, sets up a clandestine slaughterhouse with the help of his daughter Rosita. What begins as a desperate family operation soon expands into a thriving underground network supplying contraband meat to an entire city hungry for it. But with profit comes danger. Rival butchers want control, corrupt authorities demand bribes, and the military regime tightens its grip, turning the illegal meat trade into a battlefield. Drawn deeper into the shadows, José partners with ruthless players and rises as a key figure in the illicit market, even as the violence and paranoia of the era close in. Watching from the inside, Rosita yearns for a life beyond blood and secrecy. Torn between family loyalty and her awakening desire for freedom, she becomes witness to José’s ambition — and to the brutal costs of survival under dictatorship. Inspired by real events, BUTCHERS is a visceral historical thriller where survival fuels ambition, ambition breeds violence, and a family’s bid to endure becomes entangled with the political turmoil that will reshape a nation.
