Special Mention to 'The Beast in the Jungle' at Internationales Frauen Film Festival 2019

On sunday evening the 36th edition of the International Women's Film Festival ends in Dortmund. It's the first edition of new festival director Maxa Zoller. [Nbsp]
Terri Ginsberg (professor of film and media studies at the University of Cairo), Sheri Hagen (director, actress and producer from Germany) and Edima Otuokon (co-founder of the LADIMA Foundation dedicated to the development and promotion of women in film, TV and media across Africa) GOD EXISTS, HER NAME IS PETRUNYA by Teona Strugar Mitevska. A sharp and moving satire about a society defined by patriarchal stereotypes and fatal opportunism. [Nbsp] The prize is divided between the director (€ 5,000) and the German distributor (€ 10,000) with the aim of promoting film distribution in Germany.
The jury gave a special mention to THE BEAST IN THE JUNGLE by director Clara van Gool because of the outstanding cinematic quality of the film. Actress Claire Johnston was deeply moved by the appreciation of her film.
The audience award went to Beryl Magoko's autobiographical documentary IN SEARCH . The film examines the subject of female genital mutilation as an authentic and emotional quest into the very self of a young woman. Gabriele Kroll, representative of Sparkasse Dortmund, gave the prize to Magoko and her cinematographer Jule Katinka Cramer.
