The Heart of Cape Town

Synopsis

The first heart transplant was in 1967, a medical miracle! set during a time still mired in international chauvinism – here, South Africa’s soul crushing Apartheid against blacks and Germany’s patriarchal dominance over the lives of women. Lisa is beyond talented, feisty and has no doubt she’ll be Germany’s first female surgeon no matter how often her ideas are stolen  – even if she has to leave Europe to do it. She ends up teaming with Dr. Naki – an equally gifted physician in South Africa who works as a gardener to support his free clinic in the slums. He’s regrettably the wrong skin color to be respected on merit. Lisa’s virtue is blind to skin color and only sees the gifted surgeon he is. Confident and righteous of their common and ethical course, she fights until both can assist the first pioneering heart operation and prove bold dreams can come true against all odds…
