(The Hollywood Reporter) German Box Office: 'Suck Me Shakespeer 2' Closes in on $50M
9/28/2015 by Scott Roxborough
Hollywood titles continue to struggle to make a dent in the German box office three weeks into the rule of local champ Suck Me Shakespeer 2.
The schooldays comedy from German director Bora Dagtekin, sequel to his 2013 hit, shows little sign of slack after its third weekend atop the German charts. The Constantin Film production, starring Elyas M'Barek and Karoline Herfurth, added another $7.3 million over the weekend to its total take, which is closing in on $50 million, a milestone it should pass this week.
With 760,000 tickets sold, Suck Me Shakespeer 2 easily held on to top spot in the German charts. Wes Ball's Maze Runner, with a $1.84 million take on 160,000 admissions, was a distant second, followed by Everest ($1.68 million) and The Visit ($1.29 million).
All indications point to Suck Me Shakespeer 2 matching the performance of the original film, which earned more than $60 million with some 7.3 million tickets sold.
On the arthouse side, Me and Kaminiski, the first film from Good Bye, Lenin! Director Wolfgang Becker in 12 years, continued its solid performance, with $167,000 off 18,000 admissions, good enough for a top ten slot, while Victoria, Sebastian Schipper's one-take crime drama, which swept this year's German film awards, continues to perform, earning $33,500 in its 15th week on release. The drama, which Adopt Film is bowing in the U.S. Oct. 9, has earned close to $3 million in its home territory.
