Dag Johan Haugerud’s drama won four statuettes including Best Direction at the Norwegian film industry’s annual awards held March 5 during Trondheim’s Kosmorama Film Festival.
Beware of Children also scooped Best Script (Haugerud), Best Actor (Jan Gunnar Røise) and Best Editing (Jens Christian Fodstad).
The film about a teenage dispute gone wrong also picked up in late January a Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film at the Göteborg Film Festival.
The second biggest Kanon winner was Maria Sødahl’s delicate drama Hope, with three awards for Best Actress (Andrea Bræin Hovig), Best Supporting Actor (Gjertrud L. Jynge) and Best Production Design (Jørgen Stangebye Larsen).
Beware of Children and Hope were both produced by Motlys, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Hans Petter Moland’s Out Stealing Horses won Best Cinematography (Rasmus Videbæk) and Best Sound Design (Gisle Tveito), while Psychobitch picked Best Producer (Ruben Thorkildsen of Ape & Björn) and The Ash Ladd-In the Search of the Golden Castle Best Film Score (Ginge Anvik).
A total of 21 Norwegian films were running for the 2020 Kanon awards.
Meanwhile Kosmorama’s Audience Award went to the Danish film Uncle by Frelle Petersen and the New Directors Award to A Son by Tunisia’s Mehdi M. Barsaoui.
