(APS) Austrian film "The Ground Beneath my Feet" triumphs at Salé Women's Film Festival

AUSTRIAN FILM '' THE LAND UNDER MY FEET '' TRIUMPHS AT SALÉ WOMEN'S FILM FESTIVAL

SENEGAL-MOROCCO-CINEMA
September 22, 2019

Salé (Morocco), Sept 22 (APS) - The Austrian film '' The ground beneathy feet '' or '' The land under my feet '' by director Marie Kreutzer won the Grand Prix of the 13th edition on Saturday of the Salé Women's Film Festival (FIFFS) held from September 16 to 21.

The closing ceremony of the festival took place in the '' Hollywood '' Hay Karina film cultural space located in a popular area of the city of Salé.

"The ground beneathy feet", which outperforms the other eleven films in the official competition, tells the story of Lola who controls her personal life with the same ruthless efficiency as her job as a high-level business consultant.

For the president of the jury, the Belgian director and producer Marion Hänsel, the award-winning Austrian film '' has a script, a structure, a quality at all levels, interpretation, technique, etc., it is a fault ''.

The jury praised "the important and serious subject" of the film by showing, according to Marion Hänsel, "how far today's society can drive its employees to be always more efficient to almost make them mad. ''.

"The film speaks of this kind of slavery to performance and work," said the president of the jury, deploring the lack of African films in this selection of fiction feature films offered at this edition.

Of the twelve films in official competition, only a Moroccan film entitled "Les coups des fate" by Mohammed Lyousni has competed with productions from Austria, Canada, China, Macedonia, Costa Rica, France , from Greece, etc.

'' It is true that Africa, apart from Morocco, lacked my taste a little in this competition. Perhaps there are not many films made and produced in Africa, let alone those made by African women. I do not know if the organizers of the festival left to do a broad search on the festivals on the continent '', she underlined.

The jury of the official fiction competition has awarded six prizes and a special mention, including the UNESCO prize for promoting gender equality.

The jury in the documentary category honored Kenyan Beryl Magoko's film "In Search".

"It's a very intense film with a way of telling the very thoughtful story about excision. The director tells not only her story, but that of her family, of a whole generation. The film talks about traditions, the suppression of women, "said film director Monika Grassel.

The festival paid tribute to two female figures in the film sector, namely Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha and Moroccan actress Majdouline Idrissi.

At the opening ceremony, costume designer Oumou Sy from Senegal and Moroccan actress Mouna Fettou were honored.
